ABOUT THE BOOK
I. AM. ARAPI.: The Journey of Akan Israelites in the Islamic Slave Trade is based on the true stories of enslaved Africans and their descendants in Southeastern Europe. The manipulation and disruption of the historical continuities through subjective imagery has lasting consequences for the people whose history, language, religions and identity are inextricably tied to the land. It continues to be a chilling experience to discover the extent that vassals of European elitists would go to in order to change the history of humanity simply because they could. They knew ordinary people were illiterate so these maps were intended for them to share amongst themselves. They also knew that the objects of their attention, Africans, would not have access to the maps to contest inaccuracies because they, too, were illiterate in Western languages. Whole identities have been disconnected from placement in the world—invalidated as non-existent with the simple movement of a mountain or completely turning the world upside down.
